Elbow Arthroscopy
Elbow arthroscopy has proven to be very useful in the evaluation and treatment of elbow dysplasia. Elbow dysplasia means the joint did not form normally. Dys = abnormal and Plasia = formation. There are three common problems seen with elbow dysplasia: Fragmented coronoid process (FCP), osteochondrosis dissecans (OCD)and an un-united anconeal process( UAP). Using the arthroscope the problems can be treated using a minimally invasive technique. Small instruments such as a grasper to grab fragments, an arthroscopic shaver and a curette, which is a small instrument like an ice cream scoop, are used to treat the joint. If an area of the joint has the entire cartilage surface worn down to the bone, then microfracture can be performed to stimulate a new scar tissue covering to form on the bone.

Treatments to shift the pressure (load) off the damaged area of cartilage have demonstrated encouraging results. These procedures include ulnar osteotomies and radial lengthening.

Post fragmented coronoid removal.
