Appointment Guide

The Andrew Sams clinic sees clinical appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays and surgical cases on Mondays and Wednesdays. We are open on Fridays only to schedule appointments, answer questions and fill prescriptions from 9:30am to 3:00pm.Even though we have a set schedule each week, we are aware that special situations, urgent care or emergency cases can happen at any time. We try our best to accommodate those situations anyway possible and can usually work these cases into our weekly schedule.

Anyone can schedule an appointment at The Andrew Sams Clinic even though we are a referral specialty practice. It is very helpful to have as much information as possible from your regular veterinarian and any diagnostics that they may have done regarding your pet’s current medical condition but are not necessary. As a specialty practice it is very important to maintain a working relationship with the general practice veterinarians which we do by sending referral letters and clinical updates. We ask that you inform your general veterinarian of your appointment with us. We also ask that you continue to receive all other medical care outside of the orthopedic problems from them.

Scheduling the appointment
When you call to schedule an appointment we will ask for the following information:

  • Your name and contact phone numbers
  • Your pet’s name
  • Your regular or referring veterinarian, if available
  • The orthopedic concern of your pet
  • We will ask you to bring your pet in fasted from midnight the night before, water being ok up to 2 hours before the appointment.
  • You may download the client information sheet and the patient history form from our website and bring them with you or arrive 15 minutes early and complete them in our office.

Initial consultations, drop-offs and rechecks are typically scheduled in the first half of the day, between 8am and 11:30am. If we need to do any type of diagnostic work-up, we try to do it the same day to avoid having you comeback another time. We ask you to leave your pet with us for a few hours to complete the work-up and then give you a return time in the afternoon to discuss the results with Dr. Sams. We also try to accommodate our clients who travel large distances to see us. We will try to give you the latest morning appointment and the earliest afternoon return time to facilitate a time efficient day for you.
